Valor scholarship program
Awarding high-achieving Community HousingWorks residents who want to pursue post-secondary education
Each year, Community HousingWorks awards the Sue Reynolds Valor Scholarship to high-achieving residents living in our communities who want to pursue post-secondary education opportunities. The Sue Reynolds Valor Scholarship is for residents of all ages and can be applied to community colleges, four-year universities, career and technical certifications, GED programs, military education, and more.
Scholarship eligibility:
- Must be a resident of a Community HousingWorks community.
- Must be a high school senior or an adult.
- Must have plans to use the scholarship for the upcoming school year.
My name is Ariel Locke. I am a resident of Cedar/Nettleton Apartments in Vista and a 2021 recipient of the Sue Reynolds Valor Scholarship. I’ve worked for the Oceanside Unified School District Office for 7 years as a Secretary in Curriculum and Instruction and for our growing Career Technical Education (CTE) Program, a fulfilling role and one I am very passionate about. That said, one of the obstacles I am currently facing is how to transition into a new career while working full time and raising two children independently. The Sue Reynolds Valor Scholarship gave me another reason to continue planning out my path for a stronger hook in economic mobility that can and will benefit me and my two children for years to come.”
