Nathaly and her family moved into one of CHW’s Keeler Court community in Southeast San Diego in 2021 just as Nathaly was starting kindergarten on Zoom, making it difficult for her to learn. The pandemic had a significant impact on Nathaly’s reading comprehension, and she didn’t know how to write her name correctly. Even though she struggled, she has improved since joining the after-school program where she gets homework help and can use CHW’s online literacy tool iReady, which has helped her get on track to reach grade level reading.
As her Afterschool Group Program Leader says. “Nathaly does her best in everything she does; she is motivated to finish her homework and i-Ready. This is shown when Nathaly gets full marks for completing all her homework, completing her on-time tasks, and passing all her lessons. She attends school and the after-school program daily, demonstrating her skills and development. She has gained more confidence and even participates in reading out loud. She has made friends with the other students and has shown a lot of academic and social growth!”
