The 2024 Sue Reynolds Valor Scholarship celebration was held June 8, 2024, at the Mickey Cafagna Community Center in Poway, CA. Each year, Community HousingWorks awards the Sue Reynolds Valor Scholarship to high-achieving residents living in Community HousingWorks homes who want to pursue post-secondary education opportunities. The scholarship is for students of all ages and can be applied to community colleges, four-year universities, career and technical certifications, GED programs, military education, and more.
Valor scholarships can be used for education-related expenses, including tuition and fees, room and board, transportation, books and school supplies. Applications are reviewed and evaluated by a committee comprising staff and volunteers. The event celebrates the 50 residents who were chosen to receive a scholarship to support their educational goals. Each scholar will receive $1,000 to help advance their education through a college, trade school, certificate program or other learning opportunity.
CHW was pleased to welcome Dr. Mohamed Ahmed, former resident of CHW’s Bandar Salaam Apartments, as this year’s keynote speaker. For more information about the scholarship visit https://chworks.org/valor-scholarship/.
