Ways To Help

For those of you who are not that familiar with North Park, North Park is a neighborhood that can be located in San Diego. It is also addressed to be a larger “community” in general. The intersection where the North Park sign can be seen is considered as the heart of the neighborhood.

Housing Needs in North Park

It was written in many articles that homelessness is a growing, difficult problem in North Park and other surrounding areas. Even residents are highly concerned about this matter. This homelessness problem has been discussed including the possible solutions to help people get off the streets. However, it seems efforts need to be doubled to really be able to address this matter.

Affordable Housing in North Park

There are so many reasons why affordable housing creates a better world. Aside from the fact that community housing provides home to many due to affordability, it also helps improve educational outcomes of children. It also builds sustainable communities. Furthermore, it creates jobs. Community HousingWorks (CHW), a non-profit organization, builds community housings throughout San Diego and California. It is our goal to provide life-changing, stable homes, job opportunities, and forge a stronger future. We actually started our operation in 1988. We do not just provide stable homes; We provide more than that. On top of rehabilitating, preserving, and operating affordable apartments, we also layer in helpful programs, services, tools, and connections to resources.

During the beginning of the Great Recession, CHW was able to purchase a one-acre transit-oriented site in North Park. In order to preserve the neighboring views and control cost, CHW reduced the original height of the building. Chw was able to create 83 family apartments in total. This was a $27 million development and was actually cited in a SD Housing Commission study for its cost effectiveness.

Indeed, there are still many people who are living an unstable life without their own home in North Park. The kind of help that we provide is not possible without the help of our generous donors. Through great donations, CHW is more capable of providing individuals and families a place to call home. If you would like to help in fulfilling our goal of helping families, children, and seniors, your generous donations are greatly appreciated. Simply fill out the information needed with the amount that you would like to donate. With your donation, you can present a brighter future for people who are having difficulty finding an affordable home. You can also help by participating in our volunteer programs.
