Announcement: New CEO Selected
A Letter from Community HousingWorks' Board of Directors
Dear Community HousingWorks Friends and Supporters:
Earlier this year, Community HousingWorks’ President & CEO Sue Reynolds announced her retirement after 23 years of leadership. After an extensive national search, I am happy to announce on behalf of CHW’s board of directors that we have selected Sean Spear as Chief Executive Officer effective Oct. 5, 2020.
Sean joins us from the Los Angeles Housing + Community Investment Department (HCIDLA), where he leads housing production efforts and directs the operations of its Housing Development Bureau. He previously served as Managing Director with Hunt Mortgage Group and Executive Director of California Debt Allocation Committee (CDLAC).
Sean joins us Housing and Community Investment Department (HCIDLA), where he leads housing production efforts and directs the operations of its Housing Development Bureau. He previously served as Managing Director with Hunt Mortgage Group and Executive Director of California Debt Allocation Committee (CDLAC).
Sean has an abundance of experience working in the affordable housing sector and is in clear alignment with CHW’s mission and core values. Consistent themes throughout his career include the development of new project financing structures, especially for affordable housing preservation, and the design and implementation of programs with the goal of building communities where individuals and families can thrive, no matter their income level.
Sean’s expertise navigating legislative policy and advocacy also uniquely positions him to serve as a champion for our residents and affordable housing throughout the state. Advocacy is a primary goal of our five-year strategic plan and we are confident that Sean’s experience will serve as a valuable addition to our advocacy efforts in support of affordable housing statewide.
To celebrate his acceptance, Sean has the following message:
"Community HousingWorks (CHW) stands at an important juncture in its life. As an affordable housing organization, it is on the front line of helping working families and vulnerable households secure quality, affordable homes in communities that support their well-being; all in the midst of national and global change. The current public health crisis, its economic impacts, and the social justice movement have collectively shined a light on our society's need to treat people with kindness and dignity, as well as the critical importance of CHW’s mission.
Sue Reynolds and all of CHW's stakeholders have collectively built a solid organization that is well-positioned to not only meet today's challenges, but also pursue new ways to make positive impacts on the families and communities we serve. I look forward to continuing and expanding CHW's work in those communities we serve. Today, more than ever, giving people the opportunity to truly thrive is a mission we can all support and I look forward to working with you in that effort."
To ensure a seamless leadership transition, Sue Reynolds will continue with the organization to support our new CEO through her final day with CHW on Oct. 21, 2020. We have special plans to recognize Sue and her 23 years of leadership and advocacy prior to her departure, culminating with The Sue Reynolds Celebration at DreamBuilder on October 21st. We will share more details with you soon.
In the meantime, thank you for your partnership and support, and we look forward to welcoming Sean as our CEO on Oct. 5, 2020.
Chair, Board of Directors
